How has your new year treating you? I wish the best for each of you. So many are going through so much right now. Us included. Seems that everything comes to a halt after New Year's. Like, a SCREECHING halt. Everyone is in a financial coma from all of their holiday spending. Maybe they are ill. It could be a lot of different things. One thing I do know is that God always comes through no matter what. It may not be when you want it too and you lose patience. You feel like there is no hope. But there is.

We are trying to get back into the groove with school and housekeeping etc. My daughter likes to draw and oh my goodness there is a ton of drawings everywhere. She's pretty good so it's extremely hard to pick which ones to throw out. There must be another way. What do you do?

I'm working on my Lilla Rose business and taking different trainings to better improve my business. It's really fun. I hope you will be able to experience it too someday. Stay tuned for a special announcement on Friday. You won't want to miss it.

Lara Vhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08142205767303675121noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7463444565989577909.post-57643635235297843232015-01-06T11:20:00.001-08:002015-01-06T11:20:49.842-08:00Happy New Year, new start

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. We really enjoyed our break. During that time I always reflect on the year and I get sad sometimes. Why didn't I do this or that? Why did I choose to do this? Why did I choose not too? A lot of whys. My children will be another year older. So will I. So will my husband. My anxiety usually comes back at this time of year too. Work slows down and I go into a panic because we still have bills to pay. We can't really save up for a vacation like most people do and get to spend time with family. Then I decided to just STOP!!! How was I benefiting anyone by doing this to myself?

One thing I did was GET BUSY with something. About 5 months ago I started my own business. It was slow going so I began thinking of ways to make it more profitable. I also began to declutter the books and sell the ones we weren't using anymore. Then I had some extra money to expand my business or better something. If there's clothes or toys that are still in decent shape, SELL IT!!! It might not be a ton of money but it's better than it just sitting around collecting dust, RIGHT? Same with homeschooling too. If the curriculum you bought at the beginning of the school year isn't working anymore, SELL IT and find something that does. You can use eBay, facebook groups or local homeschooling groups. Someone might be looking for that very book or teacher's guide and couldn't afford it new. You're helping them and yourself. It's a wonderful feeling. Try it!!Lara Vhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08142205767303675121noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7463444565989577909.post-52180260157247038472014-12-26T17:35:00.001-08:002014-12-26T17:35:12.430-08:00Sale!! From all of us at Learning Through My Eyes.Lara Vhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08142205767303675121noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7463444565989577909.post-12839585003199047282014-12-21T16:09:00.000-08:002014-12-21T16:09:11.048-08:00

Today we went to Ikea. Have you heard of that store? Have you been there before? I went once a long time ago but my husband and kids have never been. Shockingly enough it was his idea (facepalm). We even went when it was still daylight (another shocker). This place is huge. There were at least three levels. The showroom part had everything displayed how one might have it in their home. Couches, dining room, office, bedrooms. It was really neat to see and get ideas. There were sections with dishes, closet organization, anything you could possibly think of for the home. We were really impressed. But then some of us started to get that overstimulated feeling. Sometimes even a big store can do that. My husband started to say things like "we could just look at it online, shipping is probably even free." I didn't think anything of it at the time, I was enjoying my time there dispite some incidents. Those are just normal things when shopping with the family that I just faze out most of the time. If I let it all bother me I wouldn't enjoy myself and would not ever want to do it again. There was a time I was that way about a lot of things. I didn't want to do things because of this or that. Mainly I wanted to do things by myself. I am an introvert, have anxiety issues, a son on the spectrum and a social butterfly, talk non stop daughter to deal with each time I venture out solo. When my husband comes with us it's a lot different and I can enjoy myself more because I have a little bit of help. Not much but just an extra set of eyes can make a difference. When we were married before kids we shopped together all the time. Today reminded me of that. It was a nice day. I hope we have more of them.
Or have you just started? I am am a planner but for some reason I wait last minute for things like deadlines. I don't know why, maybe I like the rush I feel to be frantic. I'm sure a lot of you do that too. I always tell myself "This year I will be more organized " I do try but often fail miserably. I used to be really hard on myself. I have anxiety issues so that just added to my already boggled mind. Not fun. Hopefully someday I will learn.

And how about those kiddos? Do your children have extreme bounds of energy this time of year? Oh my!!! I can open an indoor obstacle course. Lord, help me!! Happy thoughts, happy thoughts!!!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend. Did you go black friday shopping? I did online. I also had one on my other website. I became a Lilla Rose consultant last July. It has been a very rewarding experience. So that being said I am going to start posting about that on here as well. I took a break from blogging for awhile. My laptop crashed about a year ago and I lost all of my stuff on it. It devastated me and I lost my voice. My voice to write. I have done reviews here and there but that was about it. I am slowly coming back. Stay tuned.

I received this book free of charge in return for an honest review.

Wizzy Gizmo Who Created Everything is the first book in the series on the Bible for children. This book is a creative way to explore creation with children. With the beautiful illustrations and exciting text there is never a dull moment and holds their attention the whole way through.

It all begins when Wizzy Gizmo, a world famous inventor, puts the Bible on his extraordinary invention. The Gizmovision. It brings it to life and Wizzy and the kids are taken back to the beginning riding in the Gizmoblaster. With flashes, whirls and hums they travel to the first day of creation.

This story was fun to read and interesting. We really enjoyed it. Except for some discrepancies with a few facts on page 50 I would recommend this book. I can't wait to listen to the audio version.

I was very excited when I found out I was chosen to review Kelly Pulleys Magnificent Tales Tresury of Bible Stories. Published by David C Cook. You may also recognize Kelly from The Beginners Bible of which he also illustrated.

When I received the book I was surprised by how thick it was. I was very pleased with its appearance. My family and I began browsing through it right away. My children really liked the pictures and were very curious. We started reading it immediately. I wasn't used to rhyming where reading the bible was concerned but my children liked it. I was glad that this book covered most of the bible stories all the way to Jesus and his resurrection. But it left out creation. Other than that I was pleased with it and would definitely recommend this book to others.
I was hearing about it all over social media for months. What is Moms' Night Out you ask? Well it's one of the funniest books I've read in awhile. If you're a mom you've been there, you know, craving a night out with your friends? That means finding a babysitter for your kids right? Dad perhaps? What could possibly go wrong?

Moms' Night Out is a 279 page novelization of the movie by Tricia Goyer (an author of over forty books) published by B&H Books. But don't let the page number intimidate you. It's a fast read because it is so action packed it's hard to put it down. You can really relate to these moms in some way or another. It is based on the movie Moms'Night Out. A depicted comedy that tells the story of three frazzled moms, their husbands, a sister in law, a missing baby, a tattoo parlor owner, a motorcycle gang and a cabbie all come together.

The movie stars Sarah Drew (Grey's Anatomy), Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond) and Sean Asten (Lord of the Rings) In select theaters now.

Moms' Night Out and Other Things I Miss by Kerri Pomarolli

This book of devotionals was inspired by the movie. It will definitely make you laugh. So true and down to earth you will certainly discover that you are not alone in this zoo called "motherhood". Read them to brighten your day and make you feel like you can do this. With chapters titled "Mirror, Mirror in my car" and "Princess Mentality "you are sure to find something you can relate to. I really enjoyed this book and go back to it on occasion to have a good laugh at these realistic scenarios.

I feel very fortunate to be a part of this launch. I was able to review this book for free in exchange for a review.
In 2003 The Fileccia family felt God speaking to them. He was speaking to them about a little girl way over in China who needed a forever home. They didnt know what to expect they only know that she was blind. Xing Dan Nang was 8 years old. This book was written from Nancys journals she kept while caring for Candace. Once they met they know there was something more. It wasn't just blindness. The challenges were many. Learning difficulties, bonding issues, weight loss all came in the picture but all of that was no match for her diagnosis of Batten's disease. But yet God had a plan for this little girl and she got her wish of a forever family after being turned away several times. This story is a bit difficult to read during all of the sorrow this family had gone through. This review is one of the hardest ones Iv'e had to write. No one has a guarantee on life. We don't know how long we will be here. Candance touched many lives in her short time on this earth. Though its a story of heartache and suffering there is also God's hand on it all and you can find some joy.
Nancy is co-owner of A Journey Through Learning that she started with her best friend Paula. It began while caring for Candace in her long and frequent hospital stays. These lapbooks are wonderful and have been a delight to our family. Get your copy here:

I received mine free of charge in return I was to write and honest review. Here is our take on the program.

When I became aware that I was chosen to review this product I was excited. My daughter loves to draw and I thought it would be great for her to learn how to use oil pastels. We have never tried them before. I thought oil (like the paint) would be messy for a child to use but I was mistaken. They were just like crayons for the most part. The DVD we got to review was Sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh. It said ages 10+. My daughter is 7 so I was a bit concerned that it would be too difficult for her to do. We watched the DVD in parts. It had for parts approximately 25 minutes long. You are to do the segment along with the DVD.

What I thought: I enjoyed watching the DVD. Pat is very good at explaining all the techniques. Her voice was not irritating. And she tells you its ok when you make a mistake and what to do to correct it.

What my kids thought: She liked the drawing part but it was hard to keep her attention during the DVD. I think it was a bit too long for her. Other than that she enjoyed doing the project and had minimal tears.

All in all I think it is a great program I would definately try the other DVDs in the future if given the chance. Already!!!!!I can't believe that it is already September. Is this year going by fast or what? Some of you have started school and some (like me) haven't. Just keeping it real folks. The move we had to do unexpectedly a few months ago has really taken a toll on me and my family. I just can't seem to get it together. But I will eventually with God's help. Prayers appreciated.
It comes and goes when it pleases and I really love it when it is gone. But some days it comes back like a vengeance with absolutely no warning. Those days I am bound to my bed, my room with the door shut and normal everyday things become very difficult to bear. Sometimes I can't even leave the house. I don't want to talk to anyone nor be talked to and it spirals from there. This past year has been very challenging for us. Finances, unexpected move to name some. I don't take any meds for it. After awhile it seems to me that it's a mindset too. I often don't do things in anticipation of having an anxiety attack. I'll make excuses to myself. One of my biggest problems is driving. I really dislike driving on freeways, especially here in Southern California.

Last January I was put to the test. My husband forgot something he needed for work and he was almost an hour away from home. So your's truly, with the kids in tow went on a trek through downtown L.A, Hollywood, Universal City and 3 freeways to take it to him. I wasn't crippled with fear. All I did was pray and said"Lord take the wheel" and you know what? He did!! I didn't even get lost once. Since then I have gotten a lot better with driving. Sure I have my days just like everyone else but its such an improvement compared to before.

Then just a few weeks ago there was a family get together four hours away. We were all planning to go but something came up and my husband was going to have to work. It was important for us to be there so I said to myself "why don't I just drive there myself with the kids?" this is something I have never done in my entire life. So with my husbands blessing me and the kids headed out on our journey through LA,over the mountains and through the valley to my brothers house. And we survived!!! I overcame my fear and survived!! Lara Vhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08142205767303675121noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7463444565989577909.post-74270374287155077692013-07-13T13:03:00.000-07:002013-07-14T11:49:57.277-07:00Classical Composers Monthly ReviewFirst Classical Composers Monthly gave you a window to classical music at your fingertips. I was sent How Do We Know God Is Really There at no cost and asked to give an honest review in return.

The story is written in a conversation format between father and son as he explains the question "How do we know God is really there?" to his son Thomas. This book is mainly for younger children. My daughter loves anything about space so she really liked it. I loved the colorful pictures as well.
I have heard about it but wasn't sure what to expect. When my package arrived I opened it quickly. Although it was a bit smaller than what I had envisioned I was quite impressed. The pages were thicker and you couldn't see the print from the other side of the page like in other bibles. It was easy on the eyes too. I got blue but it comes in pink, and green leaf(camo) also. You can specify which color and which version of the bible you prefer. Full version is $44.95 and New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs for $24.95.
It really got my interest. I am always trying to find ways to teach my children character. I needed something that would capture their attention. Not just me reading to them. They needed more than that. So when I found out I was going to be able to review We Choose Virtues I was very excited.

I got a set of Virtue flashcards, a sample parenting card, family character assessment download, teacher handbook pdf, coloring pages, and a butterfly award your child receives when he or she completes all the virtues.

After doing the assessment I decided we needed to start with being obedient first. The flash cards are designed so nice with cute pictures and catchy sayings to capture their attention. Other virtues included were, Kind, Helpful, Honest, Patient, Self-Controlled, Forgiving, Content, Attentive, Diligent, Perserverant and Gentle. You can get these in KJV, NIV or secular versions.

<span style="color: #e06666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Now that I am a part of the Mosaics Review Team we recently had a choice of blog planners to use as our practice review. These were free and I had more than a few to choose from. I picked Confessions of a Homeschoolers Blog Planner. It was created by Erica. I am not usually one to use planners (I am a "spur of the moment" kind of gal) but this planner was really pretty.
<span style="color: #e06666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Each month is a different color and at the end of each month there is a place for post ideas and Giveaway/Review information. It is available in two different forms. You can choose which one you prefer. I chose this one. And though I don't usually use planners I think this one was great. It was simple to use and only about 30 pages.
I hope you all had a wonderful Valentines Day.
<span style="color: #e06666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="color: #e06666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="color: #e06666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I recently had the opportunity to review God's Word In My Heart, a scripture memory guide with memory verses by Jenn Thorson of The Purposeful Mom. I have used various methods to try and teach my children and also myself scripture. It is difficult for me to memorize things sometimes and challenging for my children as well. This book is different. Not only does it have verses to memorize but there are sing alongs to go with the verses too. There are also links to other activties to do along with the verses. Thats already three things to help your kids remember them. It doesn't stop there. There is lots more.

Fun for all ages from babies to high school Jenn gives plenty of ideas on how to teach these verses to your children. Parents benefit as well. You can use it as a family for your daily devotions.

My daughter loves to color and draw so she especially enjoyed the coloring pages link. Very good selection and didn't cost anything. You just lick on the link, click what you choose and you can print them out. So easy. I hope this book will bless you as well.

You can get yours today by clicking on the button on the right in the sidebar.Lara Vhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08142205767303675121noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7463444565989577909.post-23597927061557456872013-02-13T21:43:00.000-08:002013-02-13T21:43:22.022-08:00Now that the 100th day of school has come and gone how is it going? Are you happy with your curriculum? Do you want to ditch it and try something else? Tweek it a bit? There is no "perfect" curriculum out there. That is what is so wondeful about homeschooling. You can fit it to how your child learns best and at his or her own pace. Sometimes you will find that your child will be in different levels in various subjects and thats ok. Most important is to find out what kind of learner he or she is. Then build from that. My son is a visual, auditory and kinthesic learner. So he learns by watching, hearing and touching. Hands on activites are a must. Learning CDs/cassetts are another thing that helps him learn. With my daughter I am still trying to figure out how she learns best. She loves to draw so lots of that is going on in between lessons. Here are a few books and websites that have helped me.

The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling by Debra Bell

Kidzmet www.kidzmet.com

How to Homeschool the Challenging Child by Christine Fields

These were a Godsend. I hope they will help you as well.Lara Vhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08142205767303675121noreply@blogger.com0
